Windows 11 version 22H2 could be RTM on May 24th

The next feature update for Windows 11 is almost complete, according to leaked Microsoft WalkingCat. It seems that the 22H2 version of Windows 11 will reach RTM status on May 24th.

What does RTM mean for Windows 11?

Once upon a time – in the days before Windows 10 – RTM meant that Microsoft had completed a version of Windows and was ready to deliver it to original equipment manufacturers. Indeed, it means release to producers.

This is no longer the case since Microsoft introduced Windows as a service model. The company will talk about how Windows updates are never done, and it’s also true that OEMs no longer receive a special copy of the operating system to preinstall on new hardware. Although Microsoft does not publicly call it RTM, this is a term that we often use only to describe the version that will eventually be delivered as an update of features.

This is the construction we expect to see on May 24th. Of course, things could change. There could be an error stopping the show that could push it back, which I’ve seen before.

What happens after RTM

Once we get the so-called final version for Windows 11 version 22H2, this does not mean that the update is about to be released. Microsoft will then start serving it with cumulative updates.

This is exactly what happened with the original version of Windows 11, and the timeline is the same. Windows 11 had already reached that critical moment when it was announced, so all we have to test after that are cumulative updates to build 22000. We will see the same types of updates with version 22H2 and then there will be a decrease. release.

You can still test the new features in Windows 11

Version 22H2 for Windows 11 will be available on the Beta channel, and testing will be tedious. Of course, boring means that things are good and error-free. If you want the excitement of the new features, you can still get it. All you have to do is sign up for your Dev channel. You will receive all rs_prerelease versions thereafter.

Speaking of the various channels and features, Microsoft did not even tell us specifically what will be included in Windows 11 version 22H2. We have a general idea based on what is in the Beta channel at the moment, but there are no guarantees. We hope to know on May 24th.
